What Is Child Anxiety?
Over the years, child anxiety has become a common disorder among many children, teens and young adults. Many people have believed that anxiety disorders typically affect adults, but little do they know that it affects children as young as five years old.
The symptoms of child anxiety are quite common to what an adult would experience during an anxiety attack. Initial symptoms in a child experiencing an anxiety attack would be non-physical symptoms, such as feelings of fright or terror. Some of the physical symptoms of child anxiety include chest pain, elevated heart rate, shakiness and numbness in the nerves. These are just the common symptoms a child would experience, as there are other minor physical signs of anxiety. Prolonged effects of anxiety attacks would also cause the individual to have stomach pains, nausea, diarrhea and hard time breathing.

Children who experience these anxiety attacks would usually have a hard time coping with everyday activities, such as the ones you’d see in a school setting. Social situations are one of the things that many children would stay away from, mainly because it creates feelings of fear. When it comes to anxiety disorders in children, there are several types that most psychologists would look for, which include social phobia, generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder and panic disorder just to name a few. Being able to classify the anxiety disorder as one specific type is best done by a health professional who deals with patients with mental disorders. Child anxiety attacks affect a child’s ability to perform well in many areas of life, typically due to the fear it creates in their mind. When the child is not able to clearly think or make right decisions, it raises concerns for both parents and their loved ones.
Anxiety in children could be treated through herbal treatments, medications and therapy. When you have the child take tests with a medical professional, you will be aware of the severity of the anxiety disorder, which would allow doctors to come up with a better treatment plan. While at home, parents could do their part in keeping their child safe and away from nearing anxiety attacks. Children who experience anxiety attacks often have a very low tolerance to pressure and stress, so you need to make sure that your child remains stress free. Pressuring your child to get something done or putting them in stressful situations should be avoided at all times!
At a deeper level, anxiety attacks in children come up due to increased fear which is caused by the social situations they are placed in. If you’ve noticed the physical symptoms of anxiety in your child, you should do your part and take them to see a doctor. Analyzing the symptoms on your own may not be the best idea, especially when you are dealing with a child’s life. Through careful treatment and therapy, child anxiety could be cured and prevented.
