What Are Diuretics?
Diuretics refer to any substance that helps relieve the body of excess fluids and salt through urination. Basically you are taking herbal or natural remedies that produce urine in the hopes that you can prevent and treat numerous conditions that can affect your body in a negative way.
The way that diuretics work is by making your kidneys work a little harder to excrete more sodium in the urine. When your kidneys do this, it tries to balance out the sodium concentration by increasing the water levels in your urine from the blood stream. By expelling the excess water in the urine, you have less fluid flowing through the blood vessels so that the pressure on the walls of your arteries is reduced.
Many people choose diuretics to do this because they can treat a myriad of problems and help to give you back a healthy body. Commonly used to treat heart problems and hypertension, they can actually relieve many of the symptoms that you feel when you have medical conditions. They have been show to work on congestive heart failure, edema, hypertension, kidney disorders, liver disease, and even Osteoporosis just to name a few.
Diuretics can be natural or prescribed by your doctor. Natural diuretics even take into account certain diuretics that can be found in foods such as cranberries, parsley, artichoke, watercress, celery, apple cider vinegar, coffee, artichokes, and melon. When you eat or drink these foods it reduces your salt and carbohydrate intake. Together with drinking a large amount of water you can naturally allow your body to get rid of the salt that can be detrimental to your health when you have these certain diseases.
Prescribed diuretics are available through your doctor but they may cause negative side effects that you are not aware of. Instead of getting something synthetic, natural medicines allow the same effect without the complications. Dandelion and Buchu are two natural herbs that have diuretic qualities. They can provide a lot of relief from high blood pressure and water retention that is often associated with an elevated salt level. Any diuretic, whether food based, natural herbs, or even prescription medication should be used in moderate consumption as to not overload your body. They are all effective and too much of a good thing is still too much.
If you have hypertension or another related illness that is causing a build up of salt in your body, natural remedies such as diuretics are perfect to help release your body of some of the uncomfortable feelings you may have that are associated with it. Before you try heavy doses of prescription diuretics, you may want to just open your refrigerator first. The natural way is usually the best way since they work best with your body.
